The number of individuals in need of special education constitutes approximately 12% of the total population. In addition, in the 2020-2021 education statistics of the Ministry of National Education, it is stated that the number of students receiving formal education in special educational institutions is 1,310,605. Considering this rate and the number of special education teachers appointed through the Public Personnel Selection Examination, it is understood that there is a need for program graduates in this field.
Special education teaching program graduates are widely employed in public Special Education Schools affiliated with the Ministry of Education and private Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers. Therefore, the need for special education teacher program graduates is increasing in the public and private sectors. The Special Education Teaching Program, which is planned to accept students in this direction, aims to train teachers who produce knowledge, are participatory, sharing, and adhere to professional ethics, aiming to ensure that individuals with special needs are independent, productive and active participants in society. Within the framework of this main purpose, the special education department aims to train special education teachers who will work with children, families, teachers and administrators to meet the needs of children with special needs and their families.
